Jobseeker Safety
Overseas recruitment can involve legitimate opportunities and serious risks. Use these practical checks before applying or sharing personal information.
Verify the recruiter and employer
Check the recruiter’s identity, the employer’s official website and contact details, and whether the role is described consistently across reliable sources. Be cautious when names, domains, phone numbers or job details do not match.
Never pay without verification
Treat requests for advance payment, processing fees, deposits, training fees or travel payments with caution. Do not send money until you have independently verified who is asking, why the payment is required and whether it is legitimate.
Check the job and contract
Ask for written details of the role, employer, work location, salary, benefits, working hours, contract duration and visa or work-permit arrangements. Read every document before signing and keep copies for your records.
Protect your documents
Do not share passport scans, identity documents, bank details, passwords or one-time codes through an unverified email address, messaging account or website. Share only what is necessary and only after verifying the recipient.
Recognize warning signs
Be alert to pressure to act immediately, promises of guaranteed visas or jobs, vague employer details, inconsistent contact information, requests to keep communications secret, or payment requests before a documented offer.
Report concerns
If a listing or contact appears suspicious, stop engaging with it. Preserve the messages and documents, seek advice from an appropriate authority or trusted adviser, and do not send payment or sensitive information.
